Police say a woman has been arrested after reports a car was involved in a collision with a parked car in Ruddington.
Officers were called to Abingdon Drive in our village at 4.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 1st December). This road – and also Ashworth Avenue at its junction with the A60 – were temporarily blocked off whilst the incident was dealt with. Drivers and NCT Green 10 bus passengers found themselves diverted around the closures until the roads were reopened shortly before 6pm.
A woman received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. Her injuries are not currently thought to be serious.
A 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol. She was subsequently released under investigation as officers continue with their enquiries.
Inspector Alice Bartle, from Nottinghamshire Police, says: “Driving while under the influence of drink or drugs is always a significant danger but as we approach the festive season the risks are even more prevalent with darker nights and bad weather coupled with various festivities. Motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs pose a serious risk to the public as well as themselves and we will always take these sort of incidents very seriously.”
She continues: “The force remains committed to keeping Nottinghamshire’s roads safe and taking robust action against drivers who commit offences. Sadly there will always be some people who choose to take the risk of driving while under the influence of drink and by doing so put their own lives and the lives of others in danger. The decision to do so takes just a split second, but the devastating consequences could last a lifetime. The consequences for those who break the law can be massive and life-changing in terms of the loss of their job, relationship and freedom to drive. However the most costly of consequences are where a loved one is lost. We can all play a part in reducing the number of people who are risking their lives and the lives of others on our county’s roads.”
Inspector Bartle adds: “If you know or suspect someone is driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, try to discourage them but if they won’t listen to you ring us on 101 and report them. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. If there’s an immediate threat to life or property call 999.”
